When I left school I tried working in a retail store and
tried mechanics but didn’t like either. I spent a lot
of time looking after my sister’s kids and she said
I was really good at it. I thought I would try something different
so I went to Connexions and they recommended Fareport Training.
I went for an interview and started on e2e in July 04.
In e2e I gained my key skill qualifications in Application
of Number, ICT and Communication all at level 2 (which is
equivalent to GCSE A-C). I thought the e2e programme was good
fun; it was a very relaxed atmosphere and I could work at
my own pace. A group of us went to Paris for a few days on
a Citizenship programme which was run through e2e, I had never
been to Paris before, it was very interesting and I would
like to go back one day, it was a great experience.
From the e2e programme I went on work tasters at St Vincents
and Gosport Opportunity play scheme. After speaking to my
Assessor and the Connexions careers advisor, I made my mind
up that I wanted to pursue a career in child care. I got a
job in Whizz Kids Pre School. Fareport visited Whizz Kids,
spoke to my employer to make sure everything was in place
for me to achieve my Apprenticeship in Early Years Care and
Education and also did a health and safety check.
I really enjoy my new career and doing my qualification.
I attend Fareport once a week, which is a nice break from
work. I get to meet and work with other apprentices doing
the same qualification but working in different places. We
have discussions and bounce ideas off each other. I get a
lot of encouragement from my Assessor at Fareport and she
visits me at work regularly to observe me carrying out different
duties and gives me help and support whenever I need it.
I have recommended Fareport and the e2e programme to my friends
to help them get a job and to help with their careers.
When I finish my qualification I want to become a social
worker and my Apprenticeship qualification will help me get
into university.
